Hey guys I've never had an AR10 and don't know much about them on the quality side and value. I have found an early Armalite AR10(t) that takes proprietary mags, chambered in .308, 24 inch free floated barrel, its a police trade in and has been spray painted and shows external wear. The price is $1,199.00 plus 7% tax. Is this a good rifle? Accurate? 1000 yard gun? Is the price a good price? Could I get my money back one day? Thanks in advance!!!

They are good guns but the mags are modified M14 mags. Price is ok, not great since so many now use the sr25/pmag pattern.
As far as a shooter, yeah, they were pretty dang accurate. I had one that came with a lothar walther LW50 barrel and it was extremely accurate. Best group was .19" 5 shot group and in the .3's happened regularly. I know of no identifiers for the barrel other than it was 4 groove iirc.

Were it me, I'd want to find out if I could put the upper on a newer armalite lower that take pmags.

Then not a bad deal. They sold originally for around 1700. Mags were expensive back then.

My history with them is that I won one on gunbroker for about your price. Ended up selling it then bought a T upper with the lw50 barrel and put it on an eagle arms lower (made by armalite, but they didn't sell carmelite stuff unless it was a full rifle). Ended up building that one out with a large rail and cut barrel and suppressing it. I shot it out to 800 yards and it was great but very heavy so I sold it to build a lighter gun.

They suppress very well.

Awesome...checked with armalite and this one does have the Lothar barrel. Im gonna be shooting if prone off of a bipod so weight isn't an issue, just wanted to make sure I wasn't buying an expensive junk rifle

Well let’s see it.

If you reload, for what it's worth, I used 175 gr match kings on top of around 44gr of reloader 15 in federal brass. It was a phenomenal combo and ran around 2700 fps. Post some pics and let us know how it shoots. If you decide to have the barrel shortened, be sure to let the Smith know that its lw50. That barrel steel is very hard on tooling.
