Arsenal Ak74s. Is it worth it?

A billion or two. Give or take. Ha.

I can't say man. It was originally built 20 years ago by a company called JoeKen Firearms in Arizona on an Ohio Ordinance receiver. JoeKen couldn't make the jump to the internet age and folded after ruining their rep with bad customer service. The product is good stuff though. It's VERY accurate at the moment for me though. No keyholes ever.

The_Duke The_Duke the Arsenal's in 5.45 are worth it imo. Particularly if you want a triangle folder. Sgl's are definately commanding more $ but you can't go wrong with the slr series. Having owned several 74's in my experience the Arsenal rifles just have a better feel to them and have been utterly reliable. The 106 in 5.56 is a great rifle also. If you are considering a 74' don't rule out Combloc rifles that can be debanned like the Cur 2 etc., or possibly having a parts kit built up by a reputable builder. Here are some examples of each. @GoNoGo your killing me with that rpk 74...awesome.

Wow, I've seen some fantastic looking AKs in this thread!

In terms of whether an Arsenal is worth the price, I'm not sure. I'd say probably/most likely...

I have 3 Russian Saigas, all 7.62X39 that I bought un-converted (sporter model) and did the conversions myself. I think I enjoyed doing the conversions as much as I enjoy shooting them.

The thing about the Russian Siagas is that they are about as neat and clean and good-looking as an AK gets in terms of fit and finish (and function/reliability). The original finish might not be so great, but it is pretty darn good. Many of the Arsenal models started as Siaga sporters.

I had heard that the Romanian SAR 1 was a very good AK and very reliable in terms of function. I came across one at a gun store a while back and they were asking $689 for it. It was in original condition with original furniture, with the cleaning kit pack stuffed in the rear of the stock. I had more ARs that I needed, so I traded one of my AR 15s in on the SAR 1 for a price I could live with.

I like the SAR 1 a lot, but the fit and finish is pretty rough compared to the Saigas. And I mean real rough (tool marks, finish, etc...). The sights on the SAR 1 are pretty straight, as far as AK sights go. But if I had to choose one or the other, I'd choose the Saiga by a big margin.

But, as others have mentioned, the AK was not meant to be as neat and well machined as the AR; they were meant to function under the roughest of conditions. Although the Saigas are pretty well machined and put together.

So, are Arsenals worth it? It depends on how much expendable income you have and how well you like AKs. :)

Interesting topic...

Farmer_1 Farmer_1 To me it's coming down to availability. Can I find an SGL-31 yes do I want to pay 1400 for it not as readily as I would buy an Arsenal 104 for a couple hundred less. The sar aks are nice, but I kind of like to look of the Arsenal. And it's like you said I buy em to use em I have very few safe queens and the aks aren't in that pile.

Yea, you are right; the SARs are nice, but pretty rough around the edges. I like the one I have in original condition (and very good condition at that) from 2002, and I said I'd buy another one if I ever came across one at a decent price. But the same goes for the Saiga.

I'd buy an Arsenal if I could look at it first and touch it and handle it a bit. That is a lot of money to buy online sight-unseen.

Love mine, tricked out beautiful Bulgarian Minx in 7.62. I'll never sell it, or my Saiga. Love that round and those rifles!!

Also, in my opinion, prices are way down. Trump taking the gun scare away from Hillary dropped prices and people wanting to buy.
