Asking someone out for drinks

I have experienced this three times in the last couple months and was interested in y'alls opinion. I will be talking to someone, in person or over text, and suggest we get drinks or something. They then all say the same thing: "I don't drink". I thought asking someone to drinks was an ambiguous invitation to go out and alcohol was optional. I mean oj is a drink. Are these people idiots or am I using this phrase wrong?

Just say I am glad you said that.. I don't drink either...

Well, what I'm trying to say is do any of you want to babysit for me so my wife and I can go out? Not trying to come across as strange or looking for a free babysitter, but there is some milk and oj in the fridge if you want some. Nevermind, I give up.

I prefer tje direct approach. Tie a string to the neck of a beer bottle, tie the other to the head of your pecker. Then helicopter that son-uv-a-***** around as fast as you can (if its at night or dark, wrap some christmas lights around the bottle)
