After his arrest, Young allegedly said to an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF: âThis is crazy. You work for ATF. How could you be against the Second Amendment?â
The informant later traveled to Atlanta to meet with Young, who allegedly âutilized the Internet to arrange the purchase of firearms from various people,â court papers state.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Bret Puscheck said the case shows the need for federal gun trafficking statutes, which are now being proposed in Congress but which, for years, were opposed by the gun lobby.
To charge Young, federal authorities cobbled together multiple criminal statutes, such as selling firearms without a federal license and traveling between states to deal in unlicensed firearms transfers.
