Right on. The NC side. When you leave the Oconoluftee Visiter Center on that main drag is where I see them often.

This was in the maintenance yard at Oconoluftee back in 18. I walked out the door and could’ve jumped on its back.
Yep, we used to see them there as well, and as well as outside of Cherokee. It's been many years since we've been up that way. The last time in Cherokee I made a wrong turn and pulled into someone's driveway to turn around, and there was a big boy like in your pic just standing there watching us
I would love to know what makes them hang around certain areas up there. We've been making frequent trips to Cades Cove for many years, and have never seen an Elk there.
Naw…. them's called "contrails"….CON-trails…. we make 'em all the time up thar….
