Standard issue golf tee, buy them by the bag.
Practice.
After I had to shutdown the home range several years ago because of encroaching "civilization" I needed something else to do to relax and get outside and a fellow odt'er got me started in axe throwing.
I primarily throw tomahawks and knives with a little axe worked in when I can.
Weather permitting I usually throw 4 or 5 times a week.
It's better than eating bon-bons and watching tv plus it's about all I can do exercise wise.
I need to build one of those. The blocks are 4in deep?
And since I can't shoot here any longer I've taken up the slingshot. Me and the wife have cans and plow disc hanging all over the place

6" 2"×4"s stacked and glued together.
I make it 6" inches deep because it's reversible, one side gets worn out you can just flip it over. That size also gives you the best use of your lumber (I'm cheap).
I experimented with different sizes (4×4's 4×6's etc) and 2×4's gives the best performance and longevity.
I also use "L" brackets on the corners away from the leading edge to help hold everything together when it starts swelling up or freezing in the winter.
When you build it build the blocks tight and the frame with a little wiggle room because the wood will swell and shrink and if it swells too much it can push the frame apart (Learned that the hard way).
PT lumber works best because white wood splits too easily and needs to be replaced too often.
This is the 4th or 5th one of these I've made and I'm pretty comfortable with the design.
The last one before this one lasted 9 months of almost daily use.
Keep a hose handy and wet the board before using and it will last a very long time.
Any questions I'm more than happy to help.
