Leaving the Los Angeles area Eastbound…. you pass Edward’s Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert just north of Palmdale…. had a good view of the Rogers Dry Lakebed runway that has been used for aircraft testing and a landing site for the Space Shuttle aircraft…. it can accommodate any aircraft in the world…. the paved part of the runway is 15,000 ft long before reaching the lakebed portion….

Took these pics leaving Van Nuys, CA a while back…. it amazes me, the "sea of humanity" that lives there and the surrounding LA Basin…. and it requires upward of 220 GigaWatt hours of electricity each day to keep the air conditioning and lights going for everyone…. compare that to the (just over) 8 MegaWatt hours for Atlanta and surrounding areas…. keep in mind that a "megawatt"= 1 million watts and a "gigawatt"= 1 BILLION watts…. now, that’s mind-blowing!
