First two questions that jumped to mind. The obvious one is, what was he doing robbing the house? The second is, could he also be responsible for the previous assault? Clearly this kid was not who everyone thought he was.
Dads mind is screwed for the rest of his life, but from what I understand happened (the kid approached him with mask on and holding a weapon) I would have shot him, too. The son was also adopted. How long had he been in the fathers household? Did he adopt him as a small child or just a little while before this happened? Why are we not hearing anything about Mom? Lots of unanswered questions involved here.
