Bait collection.

We used to put the lawn sprinkler in the edge of the woods and water the ground for about 15 minutes right as it got dark the night before a fishing trip. After turning the water off, we'd head into the woods and use a Coleman fuel lantern to find the worms. The worms would come up top to keep from drowning. The lantern would make that long seam in the worm would glow like a light, making it easy to see them.

Wow! Been about 40 years since I've done that. Good memories that need to be practiced again.

When I was a kid, my grandpa showed me how to get night crawlers by stabbing a wood handled manure fork in the ground near the night crawler castings in the yard. Pull on the handle and let go. The fork vibrates the ground night crawlers come out of the ground.
