I am locked into the marathon today again. I can't say how many times I have seen it but it never gets old.

Think back to then when men were men. I am speaking of the nation not just the men who served during that time. These days when men go off to serve 1/2 of them come back and are a basket case. The men of the two world wars not only came back and survived they thrived as men, providers and husbands. I am sure they had their demons but this country exploded after those wars.
I want to thank all men who served and are active members of this forum. God bless you all and may he bring great fortune and happiness to your families. That goes for all the veterans of this great country as well. God bless you all.

I just finished Stephen Abrose's "The Wild Blue: The Men and Boys Who Flew the B-24s Over Germany".

At this point in the war 35 missions and you went home. 35 missions at 20,000 feet, temperatures at 40 below. The tail gunner position was so cramped you couldn't wear a parachute. It was the same in the ball turret, except the ball was lowered and raised by a hand pump operated by the waist gunner. If the plane was hit he had to raise the turret and remove the hatch so you could get out and put on a parachute to bail out.

The casualty rate was over 50%.

The pilots were typically 21 year old lieutenants with 360 flight hours. There was no power assist; they muscled around the most widely produced bomber in history - of which only one flies today.

Their squadron commander was a Lieutenant Colonel. The 'Old Man' was 25 years old.

Men that saved the world.

Marathon never ages pure grit. Those WWII guys came back, built suburbs, raised families, and turned America into a superpower. Today’s vets fight demons too, but they still serve with honor.

Big salute to every vet here past, present, future. God bless you and yours.
Exactly what I was getting at. They built America into a prosperous nation. The fact that a lot of those men came back with faith. That's probably how they got by. Women were strong and supported their husbands and had family values. The women of today are so selfish they don't want to take the time to help their veteran husbands work through their trauma they just pack up and leave.

The men and women back then were a different breed of human that's for sure. We as the people of this nation have degraded ourselves so far from what we were back then and we just keep getting worse year after year. Those men of that time were wholesome men and the mainstream people these days are a far cry from what they were.
