A friend from Savannah, Cindy Burgstiner, succumbed to complications from MS 6 years ago today. Cindy was such a great person and raised awareness for the disease.

My wife was diagnosed with MS 22+ years ago. MS is a horrible devastating incurable disease that robs a person of their ability to live their life with any sense of normalcy. Thankfully though, my wife is probably THE TOUGHEST person I’ve ever known and that’s saying a lot because I know and have known some of the toughest individuals on the planet. The day we were given the diagnosis the very first words out of my wife’s mouth were “I will NOT let this take me down.” She’s 63 now and even though there’s many things she can’t do anymore she still wakes up every single day with a lust for living the best life she possibly can, and she refuses to feel sorry for herself and rarely complains about her pain or any of the other multitude of symptoms that come with MS.

I knew the first day I met her in June of 1978 that I was gonna marry that girl and I still don’t regret that, she’s truly an inspiration and a gift from God to me. We got married only six and a half months after we met and we’re still together. Don’t get me wrong, that woman can piss me off like nobody else can but I still love her more than life itself. Right now at this moment she’s waiting for her friend to come pick her up so they can go out for lunch and tend to each other’s family grave sites. You can’t keep this woman down if you tried. I’m blessed to have her…..
