How does everyone handle having a weapon while out on the shore? I had this dilemma over the weekend. I was at the beach and being that my wife and I both love playing with the kids in the ocean, I decided to leave my pistol at the house. Yes, there were times when one of us was taking a break under the umbrella, but for the most part we were in the water or being buried in the sand by the kids. So what is one to do? Wear a belt with the swim suit and open carry with weapon in a ziplock?
Gun-Tan.jpg or this?
Come to think of it, the beach seems like a prime hold up scenario. Some guy wade out to you and the kids with a lil pocket 22, tells all of you to go to your beach bag and give him phones and money. Yeah, he may not get far, but could turn into ugly mass shoot/suicide.

What a way to put a downer on summer vacation plans. I'll leave now. :(

I run a boat and/or jetskis at work which means board shorts and t shirts. It also means spending a lot of time soaked in seawater. I carry a backpack to work every day. I'm not a fan of off-body carry for the usual reasons but its the only practical solution for me. The only realistic alternative is leaving the gun at home.

Having previously worked as a cop in an oceanfront community, I recall many robberies and muggings occurring on the beach over the years. But they inevitably occurred at night and generally targeted lone (usually drunk) individuals. Sometimes its just not practical to carry a gun, such as going swimming at the beach. Other times its a necessity, such as going for a moonlight walk on the beach.

I like the picture though. :D

And also the mental image of you OCing in a ziploc baggy. We get a lot of chuckles seeing all the tourons with their wallets and phones in sandwich bags.
