Beginner survivalist looking for a place to begin

I am in the same boat as the op. I do have some experience camping and farming. I just picked up some stuff at Walmart for a darn good deal. The

The back pack is huge it was$40 the hatchet and machete where $20 each. I figured it was a good start now I just need fire water and food stuff. I plan on getting a 10/22 takedown to also add to the bag.

I suggest a hammock instead of a tent. Not just because its more comfy but if u must move, movement thru areas with harder access should have less competition. Like hillsides, swampy areas etc...

Agreed. Less weight, less noticeable, easier to set up/take down. Hammock is what is in my bag...

Good start Bgolden84, I think you will find a machete one of ur go to tools in the bush. I like to use em for everything from processing wood for a hobo stove to making camp furniture like these chairs from one of our meet ups

You know, I (or no one else) has mentioned the obvious.... TruPrep in Marietta has workshops for the beginning prepper. You should call them and attend a class BUT I WARN YOU. It is hard for me to leave that place without spending money on really cool stuff, so take $ or plastic, lol. I think the workshops are free

Hey Packerrat-

You may also want to check out the American Preppers Network (http://americanpreppersnetwork.com/), they've got state specific boards and a TON of information that runs the full spectrum of preparedness.
If I had to recommend these YouTube resources:
1) Maineprepper
2) southernprepper1
3) wranglestar

I think between the three you get a pretty balanced view. Best of luck!

If I had to recommend one resource for the beginning prepper it would be the 2012 LDS Preparedness Manual which is available for free electronically: https://www.ldsavow.com/PrepManualGeneral.html
