Beretta 22lr conversion kit $180

I bought one of these kits a few months ago without the cool discount. It has been a lifesaver being able to go out and shoot without having to dip into my 9mm. It's also quite accurate and has been reliable for me.

Do you know if it’s possible to do a G decocker conversion on these? I have a spare one sitting around, and can’t seem to find a definitive answer online.

I got the kit on Friday and some .22LR from @BC1 and @1gunsnotenough (both guys are great by the way!)
Interesting note - when I looked at the 10 round mag - noticed it was identical on the outside to the 15.
This peeked the engineer in me.

On a search, I found this video by NicTaylor00:
While it was for the Beretta / Umarex M9 22LR Pistol's magazine, I figured I'd give it a shot on the conversion kit's mag. Exactly the same process. Don't do this if you live in a state that limits capacity to 10 rounds!
  1. On mine the release tab disengaged without any heat, and I was able to disassemble easily.
  2. The other thing to note is the aluminum spacer has just a machined round hole - so I heated up a bowl of water in the microwave for 1 minute (without the part in it - just the water!) took the water out of the mw, placed the spacer assembly in it for 2 minutes, then the spacer just spun right out (I used a taped pliers to hold the aluminum).
  3. I then reheated the bowl of water for 1 minute, placed the spring retainer (now less the spacer) in the bowl for another 2 minutes, and used a pair of needle nosed pliers to remove the blob of glue that remained (be gentle, you don't want to break the plastic cross shaped nub that inserts into the spring - the nub is clearly seen at 4:19 in the video).
  4. Reassemble without the spacer (save the spacer in your parts if you need).
  5. Now it is a 15 round magazine.

I had a chance to shoot the kit at the range today. Used Remington Thunderbolt with no issues shooting. Did have an issue with the slide not locking open on the 15th round with the (formerly 10 rnd) modded mag. I sort of expected this, as I noticed the carrier sticking a bit at the top (before I did the mod) - perhaps a weaker spring or just needing some use to loosen it up. The 15 round mag performed flawlessly. (edit - definitely a weaker spring in the 10er, but it still handled all 15 rounds.)

The M9A3 was definitely a lot lighter in .22 form but still nicely balanced and the recoil is barely noticeable. My groupings were fairly tight, considering it was my 1st run, and only had 1 flier.

shootsacanon shootsacanon - From what I read, the design of the slide and firing mechanism differ enough from the 9mm the make the G decocker incompatible in the conversion kit.
Thanks for doing the legwork on this. I’d seen that magazine video too, & wondered if it would be the same with these mags. That’s awesome that you got it to work. Thanks for the tips!
