best "nightstand gun" caliber

so what is your choice of caliber and make for your "nightstand gun" close at hand in the wee hours of the night while you sleep
does magazine capacity play a role?
loaded chamber or do you have to rack the slide?

i have a cz75 9mm as my nightstand gun in double action mode loaded chamber
it gives me 16 rounds to use in case more then one break in fellow/fellowess
