Rat snake non poisonous

I saw something interesting in my yard some time back. I noticed a small king snake next small root looked like snake wallowed out a spot it was real dry then. About 3 weeks later one evening about dark noticed same snake same place ground little moist do to
rain this time snake using his head making hole in ground. I assumed might be digging place lay eggs. The next morning went out checked snake was gone but could see in small hole the remains of 3 small shells of either snake or lizards. My guess that snake smelled those eggs and dug them out eat them shell remains to small king snake small brown snake or ring neck snake or lizard my guess. Maybe the critters just hatched he ate them fresh out egg.

what part of GA was this before I get concerned?

FYI it's illegal to kill snakes in GA per the DNR, so maybe let's not post about it...

Never cared much for laws.

Our neighborhood is eat up with rattlers. This time of year the big females are out settling their nests. This one was out on the sidewalk by a neighbors house.View attachment 9328288

I checked and it seems that it is OK to kill Venomous snakes (not poisonous, that's the wrong word) so long as it's legal to do so where you are. Like I've seen copperheads in the national park but it would be pretty illegal to just shoot them there in the river.

Good to know. Now I can share that we had a big old copperhead in our street where our children play, and my wife (who's DEALTHY afraid of all snakes) grabbed my truck keys and ran him over at speed. Problem solved.
