Okay so I am torn between the Yamaha R6 and R1 at the moment and would like to hear what bike you would go with and why. I am trying to spend around $4,000 to $5,000 on one. I have heard I should wait until December to buy one so the market will be flooded with them also. This will be my first street bike, but I have rode dirtbikes on tracks and trails all my life. I believe I would be happy with the R6, but I really like the exhaust placement on the R1. Thats really my only deal breaker at the moment.

If it's going to be your first, for the love of god go with the 600. It's just all around easier to control than a 1000.

Side note, don't ride like a douche.

Well I use to race/ride a CRF450R that was pretty tuned up, but if you are talking about the handling is better than I would rather have a R6.

my first bike was liter bike it's all self-control.

R1 will cost you more on insurance
r6 would be cheaper and better mpg

After owning a s1000rr I can't seem to have anything slower ever again.

Crotch Rockets are fun and zippy, but I got carpel tunnel bad from riding the one I had so I sold her way back in the day. I now cruise around on a thunderous 1507cc Victory V92C cruiser. Heavy, comfy, relaxed, loud and easier on the wrists.

Good luck with whichever you get...and most importantly be safe. ATL drivers are idiots.

Oh...and definitely go get the MSF course. It is a life saver, an insurance saver, and the best 2 instructional days on a bike you'll ever receive....plus it will earn you a waiver to skip the exam at the DMV.

The 600's do tend to be a little more nimble than the liters. I've also ridden very fast dirt bikes most of my life. Mainly 250 2 stroke bikes. I can guarantee that an R6 will make your crf450 feel like a golf cart. There is no comparison to street / dirt bikes. It's almost like re learning to ride.
