Bobcat side hustle.

If you buy a skid steer then you gotta have a trailer to haul it and a truck big enough to pull it . And make sure you stay under the radar of the DOT , cause if you’re for profit company , you’re gonna need a DOT number and all that jazz and you gotta buy one that’s old enough to not have the computers and sensors and emission garbage on it .
Or it will be in the shop more than it’s useable

Side jobs are always good. But going into business?? Ease into it slowly. Because if the work dried up, you might be in dept to pay for equipment. If you can pay cash for everything as you go, this would be the best route

If you go into business make sure you draw up a contract between you and the homeowner. Not just an "estimate" with 15 characters' worth of chicken scratches on it.
Make sure the contract makes all the adults living at that residence liable to pay--not just visiting Uncle Joe but the Mom and Dad of this family as well.

Have them all sign it and date it.

Get at least half the $ on the day that you bring the equipment to the site-- before you unload it onto the property. Then carry out your end of the bargain. Don't F up. Don't let any subcontractors are they hired laborers F up either --you're responsible for them!

If customer doesn't pay the other half when The job is done, you can probably put a workman's lien on their property.
As well as suing them and looking for a court ordered judgment.

Not sure how big you wanna go, sounds like you’re on the right track, but I have a couple larger machines that need some work if you might be interested.

You don’t need to own a skidsteer to make money. When you got a job or two- line them up on the same day and knock them out while you have the machine. Even if you owned the machine you have to charge a certain amount to afford to maintain the machine. I usually track by the hour. Usually cost $30 an hour to maintain it on a skid steer

If you get serious… Look into a high flow pump machine. If you get into mulching or running an auger for example you will already have the right machine.
Also, play with both before you buy. If you are confident an excavator will do everything you want I would lean on that first as running an excavator all day uses 1/3-1/2 the fuel of a skid steer. I would stil opt for the high flow pump option. Be sure it has a thumb or is plumbed for one at least.
