Bought a project rifle

maybe you can get another stock form someone here on the odt that isn't using one they have, that would look good with wood. With its current condition you could get a unique stain even

Finally got all the paint off, all FIVE layers. Have not come to final conclusion, but emailed McMillan and they said Brown Precision. Have not verified this.

That’s an excellent stock, much better than anything that Ruger ever put on the M77 from the factory. The stock alone would cost more than you paid for the rifle.

I would seal the stock, strip the metal down to white and coat with your choice of finishes/coatings. Clean it it up spotless - hit the bore with Sweets 762 or use reverse electrolysis copper and crud removal and get it all mirror clean and then see how she shoots.

What's the bore look like? Any rust/corrosion/pitting. Unfortunately there still is 7X57 ammo floating around that is corrosive and it could've have ended up in the gun.....

I am very anxious to see some groups and hear about how she shoots.

I would like to get into this caliber due to having dies/brass/bullets and it is one of the best classic rounds for hunting nearly EVERYTHING.

The bore is nice and clean. I am putting the cart before the horse just a bit and need to take it to the range before I make a plan for it. Going to order 3 boxes of different weights to see what it likes to shoot first.
