British Police show off Terrifying Confiscated Weapons

Not going to lie, I was pretty uncomfortable backpacking through Europe without a pistol.

It was 100x worse in Paris, so bad that I borrowed a butter knife handle wrapped in electrical tape from the Hilton’s morning room service… of course we were informed that there was missing silverware from our room number and I would be charged too

A cousin traced our family tree and discovered two young men who came to South Carolina from Britain around 1790. It would be interesting to visit the UK and look for very distant relatives but their gun/knife/self-defense laws make that a pipe dream. Heck, I don't feel comfortable making a Walmart run without at least one or two spare magazines!

LOL, where were you, the North suburbs? You should have just bought a knife from one of the thousand shops that sell them on the street.

Do stores in France have kitchen cutlery? I was in a grocery store a while back and saw they had a wide selection of knives, including butcher knives. I thought if I was being followed by someone and, crazy as it sounds, didn't have a gun on me, I could just run in a local (GA/USA) store and grab a few knives. Not that I'm a ninja of expert knife fighter but I could cut some attacker much easier than going to fisticuffs.

Of course. Heck, tons of pocket knives and all kinds of other knives as well. It's not the UK. When in France I like to carry a wine bottle opener with a blade. The corkscrew and blade option are nasty, and it's basically federal law to be able to open a bottle of wine in France. :D

You have to understand the situation at hand during that time. I WASN’T stepping outside of the hotel until I had some type of option in hand.

I got there by train and hopped into a cab about an hour later. I figured we could walk to the hotel but… A guy got stabbed multiple times in front of me, a woman was being hand raped by a 7’ tall person on some stairwell screaming,, TONS of boogie men surrounding visitors trying to sell single cigarettes, and it was around 9pm, no stores open. Finally saw a cab who wanted 130 Euro to take me 2 miles to the hotel. Trekked back to the station and found a cab line around the side for 8 Euro ride…
