Here's my questions.
1. You got a business license?
Obviously no ffl since the customer has to provide the lower.
2. You have any experience when things don't work right and you have to troubleshoot rifles you've "built"? Bc it will happen.
3. Why screw with ARs? Literally the race to the bottom has already happened and we are rock bottom.
4. You really wanna learn some gunsmithing I wouldn't be opposed with you coming by as an "intern" free labor when our schedules match up. I actually manufacture Firearms. Albeit not very quickly.

I understand that ARs have been done many times now, but ARs are what I love most and me building them as a small side business makes sense to me. It's something I can do now to help my family and its something I've wanted to do for a long time. Now I'm always wanting to learn more! Do you have an FFL? Might want to line that up before offering to take peoples lowers and build a gun for them. Or building and selling lowers for a business

It's a matter of managing your legal liabilities.

Example:

You're buying in prime parts from the finest manufacturers in the world (you aren't). You lovingly assemble them, hand fitted to the most exacting tolerances and deliver it to your customer in perfect working order.

The very next day he takes it to the range, loads the mag up with 20 rounds of 300 AAC ammo, slingshots the action, pulls the trigger and punches 8 shards of aluminum thru' his hand.

It can happen. Even though you're not actually at fault, this would have a catastrophic impact on you and your family.

What will you do?

I am aware that could happen. And as the business grows I will take steps to make sure I am protect myself. Till then I will make it insanely clear as to which rifle uses which caliber.

Arguably, there's no better way to make it clear what caliber it uses, by having the caliber clearly marked on the barrel and/or action. All responsible manufacturers do this for you already by stamping their barrels.

And yet, people still load firearms with the wrong ammo. And no matter how much you tell them, when there's an accident like this, the manufacturer has to assume significant costs to defend themselves against legal action.

I'm not saying this with the intent to belittle or dissuade you from pursuing this career. It's to explain, in part, why starting out targeting customers who want a "cheap" semi-custom AR platform built out of "cheap" parts may not generate enough revenue to justify the risk you may be taking on.

But trust me, I'm aware that's is a possibility. So I will be extremely careful when working with each customer. Have the sign a form before I build them a rifle.
