Bullet in the barrel!

Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.

So your saying my initial post / question was stupid now? Just can't get away from the insults and name calling I see. I'm of the mind set that there are no stupid questions. That's the best thing about this site, there are a lot of people that have tons of knowledge and experience willing to share with those that don't. You're statement shows that your not one of those people. So again, if you don't have anything constructive to say then take it somewhere else.

Can you HONESTLY say you REALLY think that the gun caused your squib loads to fail? I mean, you DO know how a cartridge works? Right??

Let’s look at it in as elementary a way as possible.
You say the gun fired, but didn't eject the spent brass. Ok, just for the hell of it, let’s say that somehow the barrel shrunk and didn't let the bullet exit. In that case, ALL the pressure from the round would have blown the slide back with tremendous force, because ALL the rounds pressure would have been trapped between the bullet and the brass.
BUT
Since that didn't happen, a thinking man would have been able to figure out that there wasn’t enough pressure to push the slide back far enough to eject the spent brass, and therefore would have also been able to figure out that it was in FACT the cartridge and NOT the gun.

And I have also always heard there are no stupid questions. (It's something taught to grade school children so they won't be afraid to ask questions) But when you were told by many of the knowledgeable people in this thread that it was without a doubt a squib load, you still insisted on contacting S&W and wanting to return the gun for inspection.

Below is a 3D animation that shows how a cartridge works. Take a look and, then think about what happened to you with your gun, apply what you see in the video and then give your self 10 minutes to think it over, THEN come back and tell me what I do and don’t know.

I called Smith and they said they would send me a return label to ship it to them. I'm the original owner, so they said any issues would fall under their lifetime warranty. I'm pretty tempted to go ahead and send it in even though it's most likely just bad ammo. At least it will have been inspected and deemed safe by Smith.

I've not once even implied that you or anyone else didn't know what they were talking about. So what you're saying is that it is an ABSOLUTE IMPOSSIBILITY that any of the parts of a firearm could be damaged from such a failure? The first instance I had the bullet never even left the casing and the slide was locked down completely. I find it hard to believe that there is 0 chance that anything could have been damaged, if by nothing other than the next round in the mag getting jammed partially in the chamber. What I don't understand is why you are upset enough by this thread to continue to make demeaning comments. At least in your latest post you did list some good info about how a round functions for those that may not know.

As long as you learned something about how a gun and cartridge functions, we are making progress.
And while you're at it, go back and notice that I am not the only one that's made comments that could have hurt your feelings.
I do still stand by everything I have said though.

Maybe so .... him being without a firearm for however long it takes S&W to return it may be a GOOD thing.
My feelings are just fine thanks, as offensive as you've been it seems more accurate that you were upset by this thread. It's comments like the above that make you out to be extremely pompous and arrogant. We face more than enough opposition from the far left to be attacking each other, that's all I'm getting at.

My comments "seeming" offensive to you is what got you to read and think about them. I saw many other comments telling you it is a squib load and you appeared to ignore them. My brash "pompous/arrogant" comments got your attention didn't they. Now take this as a learning experance, if you ask for help/info, pay attiotion to what is being said. Below are several comments all saying the same things I said. Maybe read them again.

Sounds like a lack of powder to me....

Why?

The issue isn't with the gun. The issue was AMMO RELATED.
Same exact thing you described happened to me a month or so ago running some WWB through my Glock 17.

I cleared it, loaded back up and kept shooting.

I've put about 400 more rounds through it since. No problem.

As MANY people have already told you, this is an AMMO issue.

ammo problem...but call Smith if you want to talk to someone new.
Agreed. Smith will always offer to inspect the weapon under warranty. All it will get you is a month or two without your gun in this case. They'll return it eventually and tell you that it's in spec. This is 100% an ammo related issue.

Brass Maxx is complete trash ammo. I shot through 300 rounds of it and had constant failures to feed. The rounds would not go fully into battery due to poorly trimmed brass that was hanging up in the chamber. I shot up what I had and swore I'd never buy it again.

Yep. He asked, but doesn't seem to be listening.

So you are saying that being pompous and arrogant is for the greater good. Sounds kinda...well pompous to me. lol As for your comments, and the last one you quoted there, about me not listing, see the above. Sounds like you and at least one other guy were the ones not listening. At any rate, I'll post up in here when I get the Shield back. On a side note, I find it funny that one of the guys that posted in here about pissing in the wind, puts his Shield up for sale the day after I post this thread. :pop2:

I've never had a squib when shooting my Shield. My Shield is only up for trade because I have started EDCing my Glock 17.

The same Glock 17 that I posted about having a squib round in awhile back. Guess what? I never sent the G17 back to Glock after I had that squib. I simply cleared the squib, and carried on with my range trip. Now that same G17 is my EDC and I trust my life with it. Crazy huh? I guess I just like to live on the edge. LMFAO!

Trust me, my getting rid of my Shield has nothing to do with the fact that you can't tell the difference between a gun malfuntion and an ammo malfunction.

You may want to make me an offer on mine though, because S&W is going to have yours for awhile. LOL!
