I have seen a couple of these over the years, but they confuse me... They seem to be refurbs, built by Navy Arm in the 80s or 90s.... The confusing part to me is their legality. I guess the long barrel prevents NFA issues?? -Just curious how it works under the NFA....

There are specific exclusions for legit ones in the "rules". If 80's vintage it's going to have a 16" barrel and legally be a rifle.

The ones I have seen in person have the long barrel.

But there are pics of some original ones with short barrels. I think those would have to be NFA.

So, i guess the long barrel versions are OK since they were refurbished that way? I gather that mauser never built a long barrel version originally....

From memory the wording in the exemption for some C96, some Hi-Power and some Luger includes "original semiautomatic". That's complicated by the atf flip flopping over the years on repro's or forced pairs (meaning the stock serial doesn't match the pistol) being acceptable. So normal wishy washy atf.
