Can I hide or unsubscribe from entire forums?

I normally just hit "What's new?" button and browse through the list. Political season has taken its toll, however, and if I read another Trump/Rubio/Cruz thread I'm going to punch a baby. Is there a way to hide or unsubscribe from an entire forum and still be able to use the What's new?" button?

I was in Politics and Hot Topics before "the update" so it looks like I have to "join" so that I can then "leave."

EDIT: Yep, that did the trick.
