Back in the old home town one of the joys was having a beer at the sailing club and watching the magnificent sunsets. If you ordered a bowl of hot chips as a snack to help the beer go down 
you would be surrounded by goannas wanting to join your table. The wise move was to give them some of your chips, well most of them really.
Oh and for those not speaking Australian chips are fries
