Hello:

I wanted to see if anyone knew if a GA issue carry permit can be used as id to purchase alcohol? I was in a Taco Mac the other day and wanted to buy a beer while I waited for my togo order. I enjoy using my carry permit for id as I get all kinds of strange looks. So the bartender and manager would not allow me to use my carry permit to verify my age? By the way I'm 57 yrs old. I did have my drivers license but didn't tell them. Got in to a discussion with manager but to no avail.

Isn't what Taco Mac is doing illegal? It is a vaild GA issued id with my DOB on it. So I've been in touch with the general manager I'm supposed to be getting a gift card for my trouble in the mail.. He said they would be bringing this up in his meetings.

So for fun if you go to a Taco Mac use you carry permit as you id and let's see what happens. I'd love for Taco Mac be inundated with folks using their carry permit as ID.

Thanks for your help!!!

What Ken Ford said.

It can be used BUT

It's a business decision by the merchant as to what ID they will or will not accept. Lots of liability on the merchant for making a mistake. For ex. here in a college town, a lot of merchants will not accept a paper drivers license (apparently some states still issue them).

Doesn't really chap my behind -- I can see the merchant's point of view in any business where there is a high turnover of employees, They have a hard enough time training the help to check DL.

Unfortunately, Taco Mac can refuse service to anyone and they are definitely not "gun friendly". My wife had the same problem one time, but it was her passport she tried to use and they wouldn't accept it as an id....seriously, WTF! It's a federal ID???
