Catalytic converter crisis

Just put a no foul spark plug adapter that you have drilled out to 1/2" into the hole and screw the sensor into it.

Problem solved.

It's what I did on my Frontier and it has gone 100,000 with no CEL.

I was told by my friend (diesel mechanic) that a "universal" catalytic converter could be purchased from NAPA or Autozone and would fit with a good muffler weld. When I approached a muffler shop, they said there was several catalytic converters on an Explorer and they wouldn't be able to tell which one was bad.

140,000 miles and runs great. No chance of trading while the wheels are still on it.

Just from memory I would say that the Explorers have one on each side of the engine near the bottom of the exhaust. These were called Pre Cats and they are kinda kidney shaped. They also are the least valuable to recycle. I would check ebay motors and try to buy the universal style you just mentioned. Much less catalyst material in them which equals lower price. Then just find a reasonable muffler shop to install them.
I would be glad to help you out here. We have a drive on lift and 2 different welders here. But the sad part is that if you were down here emissions wouldn't be an issue.Seriously, you can do it yourself but exhaust bolts will break probably as many times as they come off.

autos sold in japan have very strict emission standards.
they are manufactured and sold without cats in japan and
other parts of the world. alot of hondas and other japanese
makes can beat emission testing regardless.
