When it comes to the state getting involved, always assume over reach and abuse. You'll seldom be disappointed.I will admit, those are scenarios I hadn't pondered.

Personally, I think the Catholic Church has a responsibility to investigate and, if necessary, stop anything along the lines of spousal or child abuse. If one is not going to report it to the authorities but has spiritual oversight over the person then they have a mandate to protect the flock. Obviously, the church has failed badly in this regard. I also think the Catholic Church should excommunicate all abortion supporters but i guess they need money from people like Pelosi.I love click bait headlines.
Pedos need to be shot, on sight.
Now that that is out of the way, where is the list of laws, that when broken , it's ok for clergy to be forced to divulge to the state, and more importantly who gets to decide?
Let's put aside the whole separation clause for whatever reason... and just ask, if the state says your AR is illegal, clergy should turn you in? What if you admit abusing your wife to clergy? What if your ex tells clergy you abused her (regardless if true or not)? What if you admit to simply thoughts about whatever distasteful and illegal thing you care to fill in the blank with?
Glad I don't have to make those decisions.

Like all churches they have family counseling. It sounds like you are suggesting an "enforcement" arm/duty. No thanks.Personally, I think the Catholic Church has a responsibility to investigate and, if necessary, stop anything along the lines of spousal or child abuse. Kind of the same thing with Lawyers, they can break their attorney, client privileges if they know of a a crime taking place or is about to. The same should apply to any minor that confides in a "priest". The Catholic Church is probably more worried about protecting their pedophile clergy than the children. If a child or wife or husband is in physical danger then church needs to step in. I am not suggesting they have the right to arrest, detain or imprison but definitely need to provide sanctuary for those involved. Problem is the church leadership needs correction as much as the congregation. Because the Catholic Church succumbed to pedophile priests by shipping them around instead addressing the problem they lost all authority in the secular world. I bet every priest "confessed" having relations with boys yet nothing was done. How many battered wives were told to stay with their husbands? The confessional is sacred but it doesn't release the church from responsibility.

WE HAVE A NEW POPE!!
Dunno who yet, but I'm on the edge of my seat.
Edit to add: In the spirit of DEI, hope the new guy is black.
