I have been doing a lot of research on various locations to trout fish around the Chattahoochee from Jones Bridge down to East Palisades/Akers Mill.
I actually tried out East Palisades location at Whitewater Creek Trail. My goal was to wade the river but I was a little skeptical on wading too far out due to the jagged rocks, depth and the current.
So, are any of you guys familiar with the Chattahoochee? Where is the best place to fly fish? I bought my first fly rod a week ago at Cabelas and I was wanting to hook something today. I've been practicing casting in the yard and getting quiet good at it. Your advice is greatly appreciated!
By the way, I only caught 4 breem near the bank. The rivers is at least 100 yards wide in that area.

yeah head upstream if you want trout. actually since your new to the game fish the dam because there is plenty of places just below the dam that you can wade. As the man says pay attention to the water release from the dam. If your in the water and your out a good distance from the shore then drop everything and get the hell out of there. Its happened to me several times. Its why I quit wearing waders as well. But a lot of the hatchery trout are put in the river at the dam. It only takes two weeks or so to get that government taste out of your mouth and if they have been in the water too long they are not worth eating.

Government taste...haha haha. I wasn't really planning on eating any. I know that there's a DELAYED HARVEST starting November around the area I was in but I really need a kayak. How far down from the dam do I need to be where I can actually wade? I was there last week fishing off of the massive rocks. No luck on the fly rod.

It's been a pretty good while since I've fished there but Jones bridge park is fairly easy to wade upstream from the boat ramp. As a young man me and a couple of buddies used to tear em up there.
Yeah I've read a lot about how good it was to fish up that way. I live about an hour and twenty minutes from there

Are you driving down from Cartersville? Seems I went to some streams a lot closer to you that were productive (which of course I can no longer remember the names of... ).
Yes sir. Well, there's Stamp Creek but I don't really like that place too much. I work all around atlanta so when I get off of work early I'll try to hit up some fishing. I've been looking at kayaks for a few weeks too.

Ah... well yeah if you are in the area and have the time. I just wouldn't be driving down here on the weekends if I was up there.
A kayak makes all the difference no doubt. Wish I'd have gotten one years before I did.
As others have said, the dam is probably the easiest/most productive. There are trails on the west bank you can walk to several different wade-able spots and many fish right there at the dam/boat launch. You can also wade at Settle's Bridge.
