Just thought of something

Why are these called buybacks? As if the gov who is purchasing them sold them.in the first place. Since they didnt, how can they buy something back?

Also, in places like washington state where they passed universal background checks, is it now not the duty of the seller to run a background check before any sale is made? How does one conduct a background check on the gov or one of its agents, since the seller doesnt wish to violate any laws

I know you're being facetious but I'll play along. That word is not to be taken literally, its just what they call it.

The government doesn't need to have a background check just in the same way that an FFL doesn't or that LEAs can have sample/demos of Class 3 weapons.

Wait, so if thecity is hosting a buyback, but the local PD is the one performing a check, does that constitute a straw purchase

And as for the prior, im arguing that the new universal background check which stipulate the duty of the background check is on the selling party, and while ffls clearly meet this requirement, the duty of the seller is to authenticate that the police have authority to own weapons (aka make sure tgey are in fact police)

There is still a background check done for ffl or police, i figure it would be simply verifying who the are, sorta like an end user certificate or whatever
