chinese four wheeler.

I say DON"T DO IT BRO !

I'd put the money toward a name brand.

Bought a chinese 50cc for the young uns. After about two weeks, I had to replace the front tire (slow boat from china?), then the gear shifter broke, then had to replace the back tire, then it wouldn't crank (no fire). Called about twenty shops and no one had parts or would work on it.

In total it lasted about a year and a half. ....maybe just a little over a year. NEVER do that again!

Then I bought 'em a Honda four wheeler. They have ridden that thing for over three years and the only thing I have done is change the oil and replace sparkplugs. Runs great, all the time, every time.

Kymco for example has come along way here in the states in regards to Taiwan atv's, but I still wouldn't get one. Stick with Honda's ,Yamaha's ,etc. At least the parts for those are readily available.

the biggest problem with buying a cheap scooter is parts and service work. all types of ATV's will eventually need some work on them, they just get treated that way. :) The problem with the knock off brands is that they say "they are all the same parts as a Honda" but they aren't. what year honda? what model honda? all parts departments are goign to order parts for you, but you pay up front and if it doesn't fit/work, you are stuck with more money down the drain.

a lot of shops won't work on them because the metal is not up to standards in some cases. when they go to put a bolt back in it strips the threads out. now they are forced to spend a bunch of time and money to fix something that shouldn't have happened in the first case, but because it happened "on their watch" they should be responsible for it. that's why a lot of shops won't touch the things. more aggravation than it's worth. plus when you buy one for $400 and the repair bill is $300, you aren't very happy about it.

that being said, I know plenty of them that have run for quite a while without major problems. but it's hit or miss, so like anything else, it's a roll of the dice. you may get a year or two of decent use out of it, you may get a week. :)

also some of the brands are far better IMHO. Kymco was mentioned and they make some really good ATV's. just do a little research into the "off brands" and figure out how hard it is to get parts, and will a local shop support them and any warranty they might have. if they place you buy it doesn't do service, don't buy it. :)

I bought one of the Chinese 150's fully automatic with reverse for my son when he was 11 he is now 15. Price is what leaned me towards it, it was brand new in the crate. I brought it home and put it together myself. I torgued every fastener, drained the factory oil and replaced it with Royal Purple synthetic. I have to honestly say it has been a decent 4 wheeler. Nothing has broken on it or come loose. It has been ridden at Whissenhut and DurhamTown with no problems. Once on the trail we had to detour around a fallen tree. This thing went up the hill and thru the brush without fail. Now granted I have kept on top of it for any adjustments it has needed. Even still has the original battery. If it died tomorrow I feel I have gotten my money out of it. My wife, son and I are going riding tomorrow @ Whissenhut,My oldest has to stay home So if anyone wants to come join us come on. we will be there early.
