I am 37 years old and at 5'7" and 146 (9lbs gain since fall) you wouldn't look at me and think my cholesterol should be high. Well after 10 years of off and on trying to control it with diet and a poor attempt at exercise without results I gave into the meds. Appears mine is genetic rather than lifestyle. I guess. The doctor I see gives me 3 month scripts at a time. I go in and get checked and she gives me another. Today I get a bill for $170.00 for my last visit. I will admit the past few months I have been slacking and eating junk. When I first decided to take the meds I started eating as much fresh as possible, limited dairy if any, limited breads and anything containing gluten. Not only did I loose weight but I also felt better. Thanks to my uber high deductible its complete out of pocket. Does this sound like normal charge for office visit and lipid panel? Is there an alternative? I know I have to make some changes. I have a beautiful family and I have no intentions of leaving them at an early age.

When they did the blood work, was it tested in the office or sent out to a third party lab? If it was sent out, does your insurance plan use that lab as a "preferred lab"? That's what blows about high deductible plans...it's the beginning of the year and your deductible won't be met yet...I hate that for you...deal with it everyday

Somewhat...the new healthcare reform is going to cause a lot of premiums to go up on even the commercial side too...a little off topic, sorry OP.

No worries. Nope my office visit was I sat in a chair, had blood drawn and waited on it to print the results.
I talked to my doctor about the cost and he moved me to once every 6 months then when I lost some weight he changed it to once a year. Might be worth speaking to your doctor about

Yeah, unfortunately that sounds about right then....if they do it in office they pretty much can "bill" what they want to, as long it's in the agreement they have with your insurance company...hope your health improves....can't put a $ on that! Best wishes.
