Cholesterol maintance meds

I'd give diet a try again, maybe see a nutritionist and got to acupuncture. I'll bet the right advice can get you on track, and keep you off of the prescription teat. Good luck regardless.

I am 37 years old and at 5'7" and 146 (9lbs gain since fall) you wouldn't look at me and think my cholesterol should be high. Well after 10 years of off and on trying to control it with diet and a poor attempt at exercise without results I gave into the meds. Appears mine is genetic rather than lifestyle. I guess. The doctor I see gives me 3 month scripts at a time. I go in and get checked and she gives me another. Today I get a bill for $170.00 for my last visit. I will admit the past few months I have been slacking and eating junk. When I first decided to take the meds I started eating as much fresh as possible, limited dairy if any, limited breads and anything containing gluten. Not only did I loose weight but I also felt better. Thanks to my uber high deductible its complete out of pocket. Does this sound like normal charge for office visit and lipid panel? Is there an alternative? I know I have to make some changes. I have a beautiful family and I have no intentions of leaving them at an early age.

No worries dude. I was in the Army and mine hovered around 220 pretty much my whole life even while I was physically fit. After I retired from the Armed Services, I was placed on Cholesterol Meds as it approached 230 and my late 40's. I have been on them now for about 5 years. I am 52 and in ok shape, LOL. But, you gota do what you gota do to stay healthy and alive. The only pain in the butt is giving blood every 3 months or so due to being on the dang meds.

If you take a Statin for control of high cholesterol make sure you get some vitamins as well such as CoQ10 as the Statin will pull this out of your system as well as the bad stuff.

I found out I had high cholesterol 2 years ago . I did a little research online and found out that high doses of vitamin C can be just as effective as a staten drug . I take 1000mg of time release vitamin C everyday and it has worked great for the last two year . I have my blood work don't twice a year . They say the key is the time release C if it is not time release your body just dumps it.

I have genetically high cholesterol..... With diet, lettuce salads type, I was able to get it down to 210. The pills they prescribe cause my joints to ache.... I found eating oatmeal for breakfast helped reduce my normal 300 plus count. I have heard using olive oil instead of vegetable oil helps.... rumor has it that drinking a 1/2 glass of red wine is supposed to help also.... in addition to a small quality of cinnamon.... Stay away from dairy, fried foods and fatty meats.... good luck to you....

I too have high cholesterol, mid 300's without meds, mid 200's on high doses ( over max. RDA) of meds. I'm now down to 190-220 and only take 5mg of Lipitor.
After 3 heart stents last year at 46yo. I have cut out most processed food and no fast food. Eat lots of eggs from my chickens, drink raw milk, eat mostly local grass feed beef, eat more fish and chicken.

I also take CoQ10, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Blood Sugar Balance by Kyolic and krill oil. I know that's a lot of supplements but, they are much better on your liver and don't have the side effects.

Good luck, and keep trying till you come up with the right combo.

My cholesterol has never been above 240. The problem I have is my good is low and my bad is high. Unfortunately I have like most decided that I shall live a better life through synthetics and forget that what I eat matters. I am eating worse because I'm on my meds. That's like going to a bad neighborhood because I'm armed.
