Here's the 5 different SATs I have...I like having correct tools for each of my Smiths.

From left to right...

1940-1948...Nickel knurled handle with black oxide shaft. Long tapered tip.

1940-1958...Blued steel knurled handle with black oxide shaft and long tapered tip.

1958-1961...Aluminum Knurled handle with black oxide shaft and long tapered tip

1961-1964...Aluminum Fluted handle, black oxide shaft ad long tapered tip.

1964-1988...Aluminum Fluted handle with SHORT tapered tip.

Yeah it's fun to learn all the detail things about Smiths like the SATs and boxes and such...

The nickel knurled handle one I just got is really hard to locate. And of course anything older than that one is just impossible to find.
