I got to thinking a bit this weekend and started to consider a dedicated insurance policy for the firearm collection. I'm aware that the NRA is a logical avenue.. However, not wanting to get into a debate, I'm looking for other options that you guys would suggest based on your personal experience.
Thanks in advance!

I have USAA, for my guns, there pricing is not bad.

^^this^^

Homeowner's or Renter's will have provisions for riders (if you have only a few) or separate policies for collections. There are specialty insurance companies that do only firearms. Invest in an alarm system, safes are for fires. And I'll second USAA if you have them, they're great to deal with.

Safes are to slow theives, and possibly prevent theft but will do nothing for fire. Please don't trust your valuables to what amounts to an oven, insure everything.

Safes are fire rated, not thief rated. If they can get a pry bar under it, they can remove it from your location and open it at their convenience.

If you have a working alarm system or motion activated cameras you can alert police that a thief is cutting open or removing your safe.

I just added an extra 8k in gun coverage for about an extra $100 a year. That was the most I could add without doing a rider that required serial numbers for specific guns. It would've ran closer to $400 a year but would cover everything.

My insurance policy covered up to 2k for firearms before.

My homeowner's policy with State Farm had a decent amount of coverage for gun collections, which I could increase to several thousand dollars if I wanted to. No pre-registration of the guns would be required, HOWEVER, I would have to prove which guns were lost and what their values were IF I had a loss and made a claim on the policy. That's easy enough to do with bills of sale, photos of the guns, handwritten notes listing the serial numbers, etc.

I've never had a separate insurance policy just for guns or any other sports equipment.

The fire rating on a "safe" is comical at best. Ever seen the contens from one that was in a house that was fully engulfed. Google it. If the heat doesn't destroy the contents the water intrusion will.
They are meant to slow theives, that's it. Ask our resident safe guys. If it can be removed with basic hand tools it was poorly installed.

The "safe" thing above is because technically they aren't safes they are Residential Storage Containers (RSC) Again ask the safe guys on here.
