College Scholarships

Also look at the total price of colleges

Kennesaw state is much much less expensive than any other college .
KSU with no scholarships is cheaper than some state schools with a good scholarship .

And steer them to a viable degree with actual demand
A geologist will have a job offer before they graduate , an art major ? Not so much .

I forget what the program name is but if GA doesn’t offer a degree program and another participating state does you can get in state tuition. My son went for geological engineering at Ole Miss and paid in state. It’s a $10k/yr grant. Now he is in software sales and killing it! Geologist don’t make much money unless you have a PhD but yes offers out the wazoo

The geologists and Enviromental scientists I work with get paid tons.

Two just left because they got offered jobs over $100k at another company .

There are all sorts of small scholarships from affinity groups. A school counselor can tell you about them, or some deep research. DAR, Kiwanis, that sort of thing.

Also check if a co-op program is available.

Best thing that ever happened to me was to get a job in the school library (way before anyone could even spell "computer"), so I had plenty of time to do necessary research, and no excuse for not reading required material. Had the evening shift, so kept me out of bars too.

The school you are attending will have a list of scholarships you can apply for. The school councilor should have a list of local scholarships available. Of course apply for Hope and Zell if eligible. You will need to complete FAFSA and CSS but so far Tech is the only school to require a CSS profile. There are groups on facebook that send out list monthly and you can go through and decide which ones you want to apply for and which ones you want to write an essay for. My daughter is headed to Athens in the Fall and she has been writing essays and such for what seems like forever but I know it started last summer.

Like CAMSDADDY said, the schoool may have an extensive list of internal and external scholarships. KSU certainly does. We also applied to external scholarships using websites such as bold.org and goingmerry.com. But with external scholarships, you are competing nationwide for scholarships. As of yet, we have yet to win one.

If you weren't good at writing essays beforehand, you soon will be. Use Microsoft Word or other software to write your essay in. Save it to your PC/laptop, then copy into the scholarship app website. The same essay can be used for multiple schools or multiple disciplines by copying, pasting, and doing a slight reword.

The interesting part is that private schools, some with a list price twice as much as GT or KSU, have HUGE scholarship dollar figures. In some cases, it would be cheaper to go to a private school than one of the state schools.

Best of luck!

Yep. My daughter is a senior and is trying to decide between Berry and kennesaw. Berry being private, the hope scholarship isn’t even that much.

Thought Berry was famous for a work=study program.

Lol! Yeah. It’s a program where you can only work like 10 hrs a week. You’d be lucky to even earn enough spending cash with it….

I had always thought you could basically work your way through school there, but after going to the orientation and hearing about it, it was hard not to fall on the ground laughing about it..
