Is there any way to tell the manufacturer date on a 1911 slide? I bought this 1911 and was told it was a ww2 surplus, but I now doubt that is really true.

You would have find out manufacture date for the Auto Ordinance Frame would help.
Doesn’t have the United State Property roll mark.
Good chance the slide is but maybe someone knows the markings for it.
Good Luck!
Grips look original, couple hundred bucks right there.
2 tone mag?

Remove the slide from the weapon.....remove the firing pin retainer....watch a youtube video on how to remove the firing pin ..if it was pre 1944 the original weapon serial number will be stamped in the slide face under the retainer...if there is no serial number stamp then it was manuf after 1943...
After the last batch of 1943 weapons were produced , DOD stopped requiring the slides to be stamped as a manufacturing time and cost saving measure.

You do not need to remove the slide to see if it has a number under the firing pin retainer plate but some people find it easier. To me, that looks like a Type 5 logo (a better picture would confirm) which was used from serial number 300,001 to 720,000.
