Colt Python .357

I was passed down this gun from my grandfather years ago and am just now starting to do some research on it. I'm not much of a "collector" but would like to know what I have here. I obviously know it's a Colt Python .357 with some kind of Leupold scope. Any feeback on/about this gun is appreciated.

Probably should go in the Firearms Chat section.

You've got a very nice gun that is worth probably more than you realize, not even considering the sentimental value that this gun has for you. "Snake Guns" as these are grouped by are highly sought after and collected. Unless you need the money, I'd suggest holding onto this gun in a nice secure safe and pass it down to your son, as a family heirloom.

It looks like the finish is nickel, but needs to be polished out. You can look up the serial number and get the year it was shipped, or call Colt. I have one that with serial number E122XX that was shipped in 1969. They are great guns, but if you shoot it alot, watch the timing. The last of the assembly line "hand fitted" Colts.

Nice gun and if you don't need the money keep it. I have seen some crazy prices on here and elsewhere for Pythons. In 99% of the case a stainless is more value. But the Python to the true collector wants the blue. The deep blue is what sets the Python apart. Look at Gun Broker but look at the actual bids not prices.
