Colt vs HK

I know there was a big deal about a certain HK catalog photo several years back, regarding the orientation of the ammo in a magazine. Just saw this in a gun digest Colt special magazine. Is this as wrong as it looks or is this some kind of techno-operator coolness that I don't know about?

What you are looking at is the special order French scope mount. By mounting it backwards, they feel better as at least one gun is pointing at them (while looking at the enemy thru the scope) when they surrender.
