Is Constitutional Carry allowed on WMA during open season? I read over SB319 and it only mentions restrictions on long guns during closed season. So from what I gather, I'm good to go?

I really need to take the time to get my GWL, especially since I will be traveling more soon.

No loaded firearms are allowed traveling in a vehicle on WMA or National Forrest to my knowledge .. so I load the carry pistol leaving the vehicle when I’m scouting and only long guns that can be used to hunt in season animals can be carried along with. Like for squirrels youre not hunting them with a 308 hope that makes sense.

I spoke to 2 different DNR regions, both mine and the one I usually hunt the most and both have been a straight "Yes" to if I can constitutional carry on WMA property while hunting.

I think this is what you are referring to:

  1. 492 "(1) To possess a firearm other than a handgun, as such term is defined in Code
  2. 493 Section 16-11-125.1, during a closed hunting season for that area unless such firearm is
  3. 494 unloaded and stored in a motor vehicle so as not to be readily accessible or to possess a
  4. 495 handgun during a closed hunting season for that area unless such person possesses a valid
  5. 496 weapons carry license issued pursuant to Code Section 16-11-129 is a lawful weapons
  6. 497 carrier as defined in Code Section 16-11-125.1;
  7. 498 (2) To possess a loaded firearm other than a handgun, as such term is defined in Code
  8. 499 Section 16-11-125.1, in a motor vehicle during a legal open hunting season for that area
  9. 500 or to possess a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle during a legal open hunting season for
  10. 501 that area unless such person possesses a valid weapons carry license issued pursuant to
  11. 502 Code Section 16-11-129 is a lawful weapons carrier as defined in Code Section
  12. 503 16-11-125.1; or"
Which specifically exempts handguns.

As for National Forests, that's probably different since they follow different laws.

*Not you OP, but the thought of this.

Yeah, you would assume there would be no question about it but since it's government land who knows what the answer wouldve been.

Glad to see the response I got from the DNR Captains though.

It was also a very fun hunt.
