Ive been around long enough to have lived through a couple of panic buy phases or FOMO phases and while in highsight I believe I would have been alright not panic buying for some reason FN discontinuing the SCARs have made me want one more than Ive ever wanted one again mostly because of fear of missing out and Ive seen what they are already starting to go for on GB. When news broke I had found a SCAR 17 for $3399 in FDE. I got busy in the day and I looked and it was gone, then PSA sent out an email and by the time I went on their site they were OOS too so it was really hitting me. I checked a number of sites and they were OOS. At that point I told myself if I saw one in stock at a reasonable price I would order one. Well I did end up coming across one and I order, FDE 17.

From the little bit of research I did people say the 17 is the way to go, as its the "real" SCAR and if you were going to get a 5.56 there are other better rifles out there compared to the 16. However the negatives of the 17 is that its a different caliber that what I own so now I'm going to have to invest in .308 ammo, mags for it, its heavy, Id likely need a new car as my AAC SDN-6 is a very long can so adding that to the SCAR would probably not be optimal. So I guess now that the thrill/excitement of finding one has worn off I'm wondering if I shouldnt have just gotten a 16. At least with that I would be good on ammo and mags and I have a few more options for suppressors to run on it.

What do you guys think? I can still get a 16 and in a perfect world I would have both but realistically I have other things Id buy before owning 2 SCARs.

if its got to be a scar it better be 308 otherwise it isnt a scar....that being said my cousin owns one and my FAL shoots softer enough so that i was kinda putoff by the price and never went forward with purchasing one myself even though i wanted one cause it was 2k more and shot worse
Yeah I agree. I wish it wasnt so expensive. I want to say they used to be sub 3k at one point but maybe I'm mistaken.

Will this purchase cause you, or anyone else a financial hiccup? If so, you already know the answer. If not...WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR. GO PULL THAT TRIGGER!!!

I snagged a FDE Belgium 17s a while back and after running a few mags and larping around, it wasn’t for me.

After the newness wore off it started to feel janky and dare I say… cheap feeling for the price. The boot stock connection felt like it would fail in heavy use at some point and the polymer lower just felt like a joke.

I’m not knocking owning one but for the money for a base set up, I felt hustled by FN 😂

No I diverted watch funds to this. One of the reasons I just went ahead and got it, worst case I just keep it in the collection like all of my other guns. LOL

From my understanding, they are only discontinuing, the reciprocating charging handle scars. The non-reciprocating charging handle scars are still in production.
No they had discontinued the RCH a while ago, I believe its been gone for years now. They are now DCing the NRCH models too.

Yeah I'll have to handle it a few times before I really decide what to do. That said I have a safe full of guns I never shoot so whats one more?

My favorite gun is my MK18 Mod 1 but even that rarely go out.
