I'll bet everyone knows someone who died from the flu... If you know 10 people over 70 or so it's almost guaranteed.

The whole 'death rate' (actually 'mortality rate') is a junk stat though. It only tells you the percentage that died of the number of people who caught it and so far China is the only country with a meaningful number of cases.

After a few million cases are diagnosed world-wide, across countries with different levels of health care, maybe we'll get a real number. But for now anything thats being communicated is at best a rough guess.

That being said, it still looks to be far less lethal than a bad flu season is, and nowhere near what SARS and MERS were (double-digits across the board).

This whole thing is an utter scam.

We'll all have been exposed to CV by this time next year, and guess what? The world will still be here. Anyone in bad enough shape to die from it would also have died from flu, or even one of the other 4 already existing CVs in regular rotation during the normal 'cold and flu' season.

The media loves it because it's making people tune in. The Dems love it because they managed to shave points off the Dow. The neckbeards love it because they can sell N95 masks for $20 a shot on eBay. The preppers love it because they love EOTWAWKI scenarios.

Think back to the panic over the 'avian' flu, which actually did have a fairly high mortality rate.

How much effect did that have on the state of the world?

This CV scare will have even less.

Your grasp of statistics is somewhat lacking. Conflating total deaths with death rate points this out.

And I have known hundreds of seniors over 80 from church and 3 different assisted living centers. Nope, not a one died of the flu.RATE of death thirty (30) times that of flu , plus being at least as infectious as influenza, We will ALL know folks that die of this once it has passed.

As I mentioned early on, look at what governments are doing, not what they are saying. China is absolutely spazzing out over this. Yet every influenza outbreak in the last several decades has started there. Why no reaction on the others?

The US has just authorized Billions of dollars to fight this? Never done for the other flue seasons, why?

In the last 100 years, we have never seen this level of international quarantines, why now?

This is not just the flu, and we are being kept in the dark as to what it really is and how quickly it will hit.

It is simply too soon to tell, and you should be looking at Fatality Rates right now. If you look at CFR numbers for the Diamond Princess, Singapore, and SK, they are not terrible. If you look at CFR for Italy (which supposedly has one of the best healthcare systems in the world), well it's really bad.

And I was around for all those events you mentioned. They were bad initially, but it tailed off. CV is different as it has gotten progressively worse.

the beautiful thing about this is, if you want to ignore it and carry on as usual you can.
if you want to stay home you can.
if you want to geek out on prepping and wear your full face respirator to church like a ****ing weirdo, you might finally be able to now.
and maybe, just maybe, we will be getting into all that prepper food. I hope not- but we just might.

On a side note i was in the auto parts store and the guys said there were lots of people in today looking for masks and they were all out. But so is everyone else now

I still see democrats as a greater threat.

I am going to post this again. I believe Steve Bannon has the right idea on this virus. I like him, admittedly, and this may be his best interview ever, IMO. Its 51 minutes, but worth it.

If we had a meteor hurdling towards earth, the democrats would still be a bigger threat...
