Supply chain to grocery stores is not keeping up with demand, as per my conversation with my local store manager today.

While sales are up, deliveries are way down.

I thought inventory shortages were not happening. Is it a shortage or delivery problem?

All canned vegetables sold out. Same for canned meats. No potatoes. No fresh meats at all. Some cheese, eggs, and deli meats. Some chips and cookies available, but likely will be sold out today. Enough spag and sauce on shelf for 4 families tonight.

Lots of store brand TP and paper towels.

Basically, if you see something you need, get it and ignore the price. It probably won't be there tomorrow.

This to shall pass. Trucks are still rolling but the mindset of grab everything before its to late is putting to much strain on just in time deliveries. People are snatching up way more than they were before but they do not suddenly have more money to afford these larger grocery purchases. I think in the next couple weeks credit card bills will be coming in and you will see shelves begin to be replenished and items sitting again.

Those credit card bills start hitting will lead to some steals on all sorts of stuff im betting.

It just hit me, there is a Corona pandemic, yet Bud Light comes in for the rescue!

Stuff like the below doesn't help... But I'm guessing as long as they keep restrictions on, people will keep emptying shelves.

A grocery store threw out $35,000 in food that a woman intentionally coughed on, sparking coronavirus fears, police said

One unintended consequence is truck stop restaurants are closed. Where the hell are truckers supposed to eat? Can't drive an 18 wheeler through a drive thru.
Also have read where many rest stops are also closed.
Long distance truckers bringing all the goods are going through a hardship too. Can't bring food with you if stores are out of everything.

That's very true and my guys are dealing with that to unfortunately. They pull large trailers with equipment on them between job sites so pulling thru a drive thru isn't really an option. Pretty sad the ones trying to help keep this country together and going cant even sit down and enjoy a hot meal

Most fast food places are allowing truckers to walk up to drive thru. Many will also allow you to call and they will walk/or bring to you, some for free. Most places know we need to eat and are helpful.
