Ive not really looked at the coronavirus , the what makes it tick factor. Is the coronavirus some type of mutation of on of the flu strains?

Corona is the family of flu virus. This is called a novel corona virus. That is what the N designation you will often see in reports on the virus means. This Novel Corona virus has spread from the animal population in China much like the swine flu. Novel means this is the first time we have seen this particular Corona virus. Viruses and bacterial are constantly mutating and changing. Our best hope is that this virus mutates into a less harmful form to the human population. It's just as likely that it becomes more virulent however. It's way too early to corroborate the new numbers coming out regarding r0 and mortality which is why I'm still sticking with r0 of 2.5 and 3% mortality which even as best case is scary enough. This will come in waves like other similar viruses before this one. Best comparison for this particular virus is still the spanish flu of 1918 imo. To see how this might play out I would research that. I am afraid we won't know the real numbers until this virus has run its course. This virus is an RNA virus. The middle segment is eerily similar to HIV which is why they are treating the virus with a combination of HIV medications and flu medications they say have proven effective. Unfortunately our stockpiles of such medications are limited and they are not the easiest to mass produce.

Newest weapon in China's fight:

Wuhan is ordering all 11 million residents to report their body temperature every day to combat the coronavirus

Word was that China is using drones to find people who aren't wearing facemasks. You can bet things will be getting worse their for the citizens.

Recoveries accelerating... And Rate of infections slowing... All Good

But again... This is based on the data coming out of China, which is suspect

Just read that Chinese scientists now say a scaly pangolin anteater could be coronavirus host. They are on the protected species list, but get sold in their markets because their meat is considered a delicacy and their scales are used to make herbal medicines.

The pangolin is one of the most trafficked mammals in Asia and Africa, with an estimated 116,990 to 233,980 killed between 2011 and 2013, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
