Coyote Hunting and Trapping.

If Im am getting into trapping what type of trap is best for coyote??
There is no one above all. Me personally I love the No BS. K9 Jr traps but they are pricey. For just starting out I would recommend the bridger #2 or duke 550. I prefer dogless style traps myself but some like the dog on. It is all personal preference once you get into it and figure out what works best for you.

I’m new to this as well actually haven’t shot a coyote yet. Is it best to set the call up close (50-75 yards) and call them to you or set it up far away and pick them off at distance? Also rifle or shotgun?

These were last month. I pulled all my traps this past weekend, work is picking up and won't have time to go check and clear traps everyday. I have found a new love in trapping.

If you haven't already, join the Georgia Trappers Association. We have lots of seminars from some of best trappers in the world. I've been trapping since the early 80's and still learn from those seminars. If you are ever in Henry County come by and I will show you my fur shed and talk trapping.

Distance depends on where I’m hunting.
I’ve killed them with the call out at 100 and killed them with the call 35 yards away.
I try to set up with the call dead downwind from me. Coyotes will usually circle downwind of your setup. Hopefully I can catch them circling to the downwind side before they catch my scent.
I’ve carried a rifle and shotgun both on setups, especially now when the foliage is thick. Full choke and a good turkey load will kill them. I prefer a #4 tungsten predator load.
