HI,
Im new to a crossbow, but not hunting..

I wanted to know some general info.
What is the recommended zero distance?

What range is a crossbow effective?

I know these can be googled, but I wanted some experience and recommendation behind the answers thanks..
And any other good points still help too..

I have zero firsthand experience but a few years ago my brother said that he wanted to get crossbows for himself and for me so we could hunt during archery season. *

I researched the performance of crossbows and I came to the conclusion they are a heck of a lot more like a rifle than they are a traditional compound bow .

Very accurate to 100 yards, once you get it tuned right with arrows (bolts) that it likes.

* Like everything else my brother talks about, he never followed through, so neither one of us got any crossbows.

Distance is really related to skill and equiptment. I can comfortably kill out to 30yds or so. I can target shoot much farther, but wouldnt try one much past 30. I have multi points of aim on scope. First pin is 20 and second is 30. With my bow, a twenty five yard shot falls between pin one and two.
The bow kills better than a rifle at 30yd. I use montec fixed. The damage is incredible. The blood trails could be followed by a blind man, if they even run. Penetration falls off every five yards. I would never shoot a mechanical, and i always practice with the arrow i hunt with. I also practice with the broadhead. I dont practice like with a bow though. It ruins and wears out gear. I take a few shots at varying distance or angles to be sure the scope is on. I miss true bow hunting , but the crossbow presents its own challenges.

Mine is set up at 20,30,40 and 50 yards. Shoots 420fps, killing a deer at 30 yards is no problem, furthest shot I’ve taken at a deer was 40 yards, had a dead deer, will I do it again? Not sure but definitely anything under 30 is gtg!
