No, flat torque with HP going up consistently is ideal.
The way that looks, it will get off the line pretty good, then loose steam once the RPM's go up. Its the inherit characteristics of the smaller diesel engines.
Oh come on, you're raining on my parade. Just look at that sweet spot right around 2200 rpm. Remember, this is a 1.9L and gets 50 mpg. Much more fun than a Prius...

Just pointing out ideal power is a flat torque curve which in turn will give you that perfect HP curve (in a perfect world of course). Its why I like the LS1 V8 so much for the money. They nearly all pull hard up to 6K RPM's. I never feel any dip in power like you do in so many engines.
My STI pulls great off the line, but looses a good bit around 5-6,500 RPM. I need to get it tuned to get the power a bit more consistent in the higher RPM's.
That STI is a sweet car and is on my top five list. I like the LS motors as well. Lots of power and fuel efficiency (for a V8 anyways).
Yeah my 02' WS6 got around 28-30 MPG in 6th gear cruising. I do miss that strong pull all the way through the RPM range, but the STI has such better brakes, turn in, exit speed, and over all quality.
