Damn you Poison Ivy.....Damn You!

Go to CVS and buy Zanfel. You'll want to buy me a steak dinner, trust me. The itch will be gone in 60 seconds, and the rash in a couple days. It's pure black magic..no joke. Go buy it now.

I have used everything mentioned and Zanfel is the cure!! ( Tec Nu is good stuff but works better as a repellent : lube up with Tecnu prior to being outside near it)

Yep, tossed my benedryl, and calamine in the trash. Zanfel doesn't cover the itch, it removes the oil. I have a tube in my ghb, and at home. I never go camping without it. Totally cures poison ivy in seconds.

I've got to look into some Zanfel and or the tecnu- I've never had a bad reaction to poison ivy before. But last Christmas, my arms made my doctor cringe. A week of prednisone later, it had finally started to dry up.

Rx is the best cure get a shot , pred. Go the the Dr or Minute Clinic.
We had a neighbor from up North (NY) who didn't know what poison Ivy looked like used a chain saw to cut down trees roped in it.
Well lets say a bad next day.

Like has already been mentioned, the rash comes from your body reacting to the urishiol (sp?) oil from the plant. If you can't handle it, definitely go to the doc and get a steroid shot. Benadryl is your friend as well.

If you can get by, you could also use Zanfel. It is sold over the counter. It either pulls out the oil or neutralizes it, and your rash clears up pretty quickly. It's about $40 for a one ounce bottle though, so depending on your insurance, you may be better off with a copay at the doc.

I know a lot of people who think they aren't allergic.

I am certain I got into some and didn't have a reaction years ago. That made me think I wasn't allergic. So, one day I was cleaning up some old limbs and grabbed hold of a rotten-ass runner. My damn hand swelled up to the size of a softball. It hurt. Hurt bad for like two weeks.

I learned my lesson. Many times, people don't have a reaction the first exposure or two. Then they feel the wrath. I don't play anymore. If I even halfway think I have gotten some ivy exposure, I wash the hell off with TECNU. Haven't had it in @15 years-life is good!

For whatever reason I was born with an immunity to poison ivy and oak. I'm certainly thankful for it. However, I've always heard to use Benadryl as well.
