Daughter took her 2010 Honda Fit to the local ripem off shop and this is what they said about her car that went in for brake noise

The guy told her the reason her brake fluid was so dark is because she had algae in the system from water. WTF!!

Why do shops always trey to rip off single women with their cars. Assholes!

I got 4 rotors and pads for my Tiguan for $1200 including a flush. Plugs - they do - special tool every 50,000. No algae found.

I just did brakes front and rear, with 4 new rotors for less than $265 on my 2015 Subaru Forester. Shadetree mechanic was an ass...swore a lot and drank a bunch of beer. My wife said she'd never sleep with him again to get that deal!

But seriously, it sucks when shops take advantage of people, especially women.

These days they have automatic brake fluid evacuation machines and all you do is stand over the reservoir and keep it full. It bleeds the system as it fills at the same time. I use to change my fluid in my Trans Am after each trip to the track. It doesn't take all that long and all I used was a vacuum hand held job.

I can't see anymore than 500 dollars worth of work. Plus parts which are marked up twice by the time they are put in the car. I think mechanics are charging way to much for work anyway. I mean inflation hit but great day in the morning!

You can buy a complete brake overhaul kit from Power Stop or competing companies for a song and a dance these days. Rotors, pads and some have upgraded calipers.
