Daughter's car had a nail in the tread of the tire. Local shop wanted $42 to patch the tire. WTH!

In the past 40+ years I've plugged many a tire for myself, family, friends, neighbors and strangers. I've never patched a tire.
I've never had a plug fail.
Maybe I'm Blessed or super lucky?

Most plugs in any tire was 3 or 4. Big industrial parking lot.
I've never had a plug fail either. Rode 50,000+ miles on one in an Explorer.

Tire plug kit and a Ryobi 1+ hand held air compressor with 4ah battery don't take up much room.
Used the compressor several times when the temperature drops and the stupid KIA low tire pressure alarm lights.up.
Biggest use is blowing up floats when the wife goes to lake with friends.

According to Google, the average labor rate for auto repair is $75-135 per hour. Figuring 30 minutes to repair a tire makes a $40 charge about right.

This inflation bull**** is giving people the excuse to overcharge. I went to Dallas tire for my free tire rotation. I just dropped 700 on my jeep cherokee and 1000 on my Dodge Ram.
Now my main point. I took synthetic oil and a upgraded oil filter to have them change my oil while I got my free rotation. $55.70. What the hell???. I was thinking 20.00 or 25.00 for 10.minutes.
Then 1875.00 for a electric water heater. A very simple install. The unit costs less than 600.00 and 1200.00 to connect???.
I put one in 1994 300.00
260.00 for the unit and 40.00 for my stepson's help.
How much does it cost you to change oil yourself?

ETA - You provided oil and filter. Got it. Never mind. Glad to see I wasn’t alone in finding the wording confusing. That kind of sounds to me like they don’t want you providing your own fluids/parts.

All the other tire repair facilities charge $20 to $25 to make the same repair using a patch. The only oddball was the one shop charging over $40 and her excuse was "but it's a lifetime patch".

Cost to change oil is oil and filter costs. Purchasing the tools to change the oil. The container to catche the oil. AUTO ZONE and O'Reilly takes fluide free. I did it myself untill 4 years ago and back surgery limits my movement.
